...jacks first go at fusing some poetry with music happened kind of haphazard as this session was really for jack just to read and that didn't gel too well so it was suggested to bring steve allen in to lay down some mellow keys for jack to vibe and riff off...what's cool about this is that when jack fluffs a line it's been left in, today that would be done over until any life has been crushed from the poem (style over substance is what's needed today according to the bean counting cubes)...very nice and sounds like gone reality in this day and age...jacks second wax session came along and with this he knew more of what he wanted the disk to sound like...he specially asked for al and zoot to blow with and around him and it works over on side two real nice as they run through the frisco blues stretching to 23 choruses...when the session was over the sax cats just split without talking to jack or listening to a playback and according to legend jack was real dragged at this behaviour, as well he might...obviously zoot and al just thought it was two hours bread and off, no need to hang with the king of the beats...anyhow this don't take away the fact that this is well cool groove and real nice late at night as the weed and wine flow in the garrets of bohoville...
